Your answer :
8 − ( − 6) = 2.
The problem was 8 − ( − 6). You either added without changing the sign of the number being subtracted, or changed the sign and then subtracted anyway. You must do both: change the sign of the number being subtracted, and add instead of subtract.
Here is the way it should be done:
sign changed 8 − ( − 6) = 8  +  ( + 6)  = ? add instead of subtract
