(1)/(3) = (1)/(31).
It is true that (1)/(3) = (1)/(31), certainly, since 31 = 3, but we wanted you to write (1)/(3) as a power of 3, making use of the negative exponents that we had just defined. Better return to Page 101 and go through these last few pages on negative exponents again.
