Your answer :
By the power of 10 it is shown multiplying in the number.
In the decimal number 369 we don’t show any powers of 10 explicitly, do we? No exponent is written, so the coefficient isn’t shown to be multiplying any power.
The point is that we have learned through long association with the decimal system that the right-hand digit is the number of 1’s, the next digit to the left is the number of 10’s, the next the number of 100’s and so on.
