Your answer :
7,
By our basic definition,
b − n = (1)/(bn)
and therefore
10 − 1 = (1)/(101) = (1)/(10) = .1.
The question was: What is the coefficient of 10 − 1in 142.67. The coefficient of 10 − 1 is the number that tells us how many .1’s are used, isn’t it? Your answer, 7, is the number of .01’s used, because 7 is the coefficient of 10 − 2, and
10 − 2 = (1)/(102) = (1)/(100) = .01.
