You seemed to have remembered the multiplication rule for powers of numbers,
(bm)(bn) = b(m + n)
except that you forgot that one of the exponents in this case is a negative number, -3. Remember, to add numbers of unlike sign, you find the difference between the absolute values, and attach the sign of the number with the larger absolute value. So really you have the problem
(24)(2 − 3) = 2(4 + ( − 3)) = ?
