You are correct. By our basic definition,
b − n = (1)/(bn)
and therefore
10 − 1 = (1)/(101) = (1)/(10) = .1.
Very well, the original question was: In the decimal number 142.67, what is the coefficient of 10 − 1? The coefficient of 10 − 1 is the number that tells us how many .1’s are used in the number 142.67.
